Audi A3 failed in the US not because it was a hatchback but because for the
$36K as stickered you get a car that is smaller in interior dimensions than
Toyota Corolla. US buyers tend to be frugal and want as much car for the
money as possible. US buyers also want reliability and low maintenance
cost. Add all of that and you understand the success of Toyota Camry and
Honda Accord.
